As it turns out, we've already gotten a lot of new information about the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup. And if these rumors are true, the new iPhones will be completely different — both inside and out.
If you're looking to try the new artificial intelligence tech or the so-called Capture button, you better start getting ready for what's to come. Of course, it's still too early to tell, so please any rumors you read about with a healthy dose of salt. Even if some of them are true, we won't know for sure until Apple launches the new iPhone.
Still, from AI to new buttons and a possible iPhone Ultra, there's a lot to hope for in the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup.
Read on for 8 iPhone 16 rumors you really need to know.
The iPhone 16 Will Feature a Larger Display
Numerous rumors have revealed that Apple will increase the size of several of its products this year. First, the iPad Air and iPad Pro are said to be getting larger displays. Likewise, the iPhone 16 lineup will also feature the biggest displays we've ever seen on an iPhone.
Unfortunately, this change will only be on the Pro models. According to the rumors, Apple will increase the size of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max to 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch screens, respectively. That's a decent increase compared to the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays that have been the norm since the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
On the other hand, the base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will keep the same 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays we're already familiar with.
Speaking of the display, it seems Apple may also start using microlens technology on the OLED panel of the iPhone 16's display. This new technology will provide a brighter display while also significantly decreasing power consumption.
Artificial Intelligence Is Coming to the iPhone

AI is here to stay, and tech companies know this. This is why we've seen big companies starting to use AI on all their products, and it seems Apple won't be the exception.
Rumor has it that Apple is planning on-device AI technology that could be exclusive to the iPhone 16 lineup.
This new tech will turn Siri from a mediocre virtual assistant to a powerful AI bot. In theory, it would be able to improve auto-complete features on the iPhone, provide better suggestions and recommendations, and give better, smarter answers than before.
We Won't See the A17 Chip on the iPhone 16

Two years ago, Apple started using year-old chips on the base iPhone models to help the Pro models stand out. However, that might change with the iPhone 16 lineup.
Instead of using the A17 Pro chip that the iPhone 15 Pro models have, Apple might add an A18 Bionic chip to the base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
To make the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max stand out, Apple is said to feature the A18 Pro Chip, an even more powerful processor. These new chips might feature an extra GPU to make the performance on the Pro models really shine.
The Action Button Will Come to the Entire Lineup
As of right now, only the iPhone 15 Pro models are rocking the new Action button, which is a cool new way to access your favorite shortcuts.
Unfortunately, the base iPhone 15 models still have the old ring/silent switch, but that might soon be over. According to the rumors, Apple will implement the Action button on all iPhone 16 models, similar to what the company did with its Dynamic Island this year.
Will We See the iPhone Ultra in 2024?
We've heard news and rumors about an iPhone Ultra since the beginning of the year.
Many rumors suggested that Apple was working on a special, high-end iPhone, supposedly called the iPhone 15 Ultra. However, as we saw, Apple didn't launch any new iPhones this year.
With that said, that might change in 2024. There are already rumors that Apple could potentially launch a brand new iPhone 16 Ultra.
This iPhone would be better than anything we've ever seen before, and it might feature a larger display, better performance, and a bigger battery. Not to mention a premium price like nothing we've ever seen.
A New "Capture" Button Might be Coming

Alongside the Action button, we might also see a Capture button on all iPhone 16 models.
This button will be a capacitive button that will send feedback responses whenever you touch it. It should be located right below the side button, and its job will be primarily to take pictures or video.
While it might not seem like much, a lot of people have asked for a dedicated button to make it easier to take pictures, and having a button located on the lower right part of the iPhone would make it easier to snap photos in both landscape and portrait modes.
Is This the End of Physical Buttons?
There are a lot of rumors regarding the buttons on the iPhone 16, or rather, the lack thereof.
Rumors point out that Apple will finally get rid of the physical buttons with the iPhone 16 lineup. Instead, reports say the company will use solid-state buttons that will work like regular buttons.
However, instead of pressing them, you would only feel a small haptic response letting you know the button has been pressed. It would work similarly to the Home button on the iPhone SE.
That probably sounds familiar to you, and it's because Apple tried to add these buttons to the iPhone 15 this year. Apple reportedly had to scrap that idea due to technical issues. However, it seems the company might try again in 2024.
iPhone 16: Price and Release Date
When it comes to the release date, we're all expecting to see the new iPhone 16 models sometime in September 2024 since it's the same month Apple consistently uses to launch the new iPhone and Apple Watch.
The price, on the other hand, could change this year. According to some rumors, Apple might finally increase the price of the complete iPhone 16 lineup.
This is because the components have been getting more expensive. For comparison, the components on the iPhone 15 were 16% more expensive compared to the iPhone 14. This year, however, Apple decided to avoid charging users and eat those costs itself.
Unfortunately, for Apple to be profitable in the long run, it might need to start charging users a higher price for these components.
While we don't know exactly what the price increase might look like, we suggest you start saving up some money.
