Apple Intelligence May Soon Come to the Vision Pro

Owners of Apple’s $3,500 spatial computing headset may be getting a nice spring treat. A recent report suggests that Apple’s next visionOS update may bring Apple Intelligence to the Vision Pro.
It’s always been a bit of a mystery why Apple’s most expensive product was left out of the Apple Intelligence party. With an M2 chip and 16 GB of RAM inside, it’s certainly more than capable of handling Apple’s on-device large language models, but Apple likely already had its hands full getting Apple Intelligence ready for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac — three platforms that are substantially more popular than the pricey and niche Vision Pro.
Considering the speed at which Apple Intelligence has rolled out for the iPhone — the platform that’s Apple’s real bread and butter — it was probably wise to avoid spreading its resources too thin. The Vision Pro has still gotten many useful features in the last few visionOS updates, including a major visionOS 2.0 release in September that arrived only seven months after the headset went on sale.
Still, despite improvements to Photos, Safari, and the overall user experience, there was no sign of Apple Intelligence. Apple also remained mum about when (or even if) these features would be coming to the current Vision Pro. A September report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that we might not see Apple’s AI suite until the next-generation Vision Pro arrives early next year, expected to be powered by Apple’s yet-to-be-released M5 chip.

However, there may be some good news for those who shelled out for Apple’s pricey headset. In this week’s edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman notes that Apple is “preparing a significant upgrade for visionOS” that will bring Apple Intelligence to the Vision Pro, plus a few other nice enhancements.
“The company aims to roll out the features as part of a visionOS 2.4 software upgrade targeted for as early as April,” Gurman said in a separate report on Saturday, citing “people with knowledge of the matter.” He added that developers could see the first beta of visionOS 2.4 with Apple Intelligence “as soon as this week.”
The Vision Pro may also get the whole suite of current Apple Intelligence features in one fell swoop, as opposed to the staged rollout we saw on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Gurman’s sources say we can expect standard features like Writing Tools, Genmoji, and Image Playground. Although ChatGPT is likely to be rolled in the same way it has on Apple’s other devices, it’s unlikely we’ll see an enhanced Siri. Even iPhone users may have to wait until iOS 18.5 before Siri gets any smarter.
Beyond Apple Intelligence, the visionOS 2.4 update will also reportedly add a new app for viewing spatial content such as 3D images and panoramas. Apple hopes this will “spur interest in the spatial media category and drum up more use of the product,” Gurman says.
Apple also plans to improve the Vision Pro’s Guest Mode feature by letting the owner control and configure it on their iPhone, possibly while a friend or family member is using the headset. The improvements could make the Vision Pro friendlier for sharing among the whole family, possibly encouraging sales by convincing more folks to purchase one for the whole household to enjoy.
