7 Announcements We’d Love to See at Apple’s 2021 March Event

We fully expect Apple to hold a traditional March event this year on the 16th – but it’s an interesting time for product announcements, to say the least. Many devices that were delayed due to 2020's circumstances could finally surface, while other expected products may still be delayed due to production issues. Continue reading to browse what we’d love to see, and why spring 2021 is the right time for Apple to unleash these new products.
New Mini LED iPad
Plenty of reports have shown that Apple is getting ready to launch its first mini LED iPad. The company has been working on mini LED screens for years, using extra-small LEDs for much better contrast and color accuracy.
It seems a mini LED model is finally ready to hit the market, and the best guesses say it'll be a spring quarter iPad. This exciting new visual technology also gives Apple something to center the event on.
The downside? Mini LED is probably still quite expensive, so this would likely be one of the highest-priced iPads Apple has ever released unless they’re going to eat a lot of costs. But look for a mini LED launch soon, no matter what form it takes.
New iPad Pro
Apple has been quite aggressive with its iPad Pro line, and analysts such as Ming-Chi Kuo predict that the March event will showcase a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro. We’re very interested in this option because it gives Apple the opportunity to do several things.
First, that mini LED rumor we mentioned before could be a great fit for a larger, high-end iPad Pro where the higher costs (and resulting usefulness for professionals) wouldn’t cause sticker shock. It would also give Apple the opportunity to add several much-needed features to the iPad Pro, like 5G support.
Apple AirTags
We’ve known about AirTags for what seems like ages. These are little trackers that you’ll be able to attach to all sorts of things and track them to see their location, even in AR.
The system will almost certainly work natively with Apple’s Find My app, making it an excellent addition for Apple users looking for dependable trackers.
Rumor has it, they haven't been released yet simply because people are losing less stuff in quarantine; but if it’s finally time, the March event is the place to announce them.
AirPods 3
We’ve discussed that it’s about time for the AirPods 3 to make their debut and what features we’d love to see included. If Apple really has been working on the AirPods 3 they’ve kept it tightly under wraps, but this spring event could still see the third generation. The timeline matches up well with when the AirPods 2 were announced, and Apple has a lot of interesting audio technology they could upgrade the base AirPods line with.
Upgraded Apple TV
Apple TV has been stuck on the 4K version for quite a while, leading to rumors that Apple is planning a new approach to Apple TVs or possibly ditching the line altogether. The latest reports indicate that Apple is working on a big Apple TV upgrade with a redesigned remote, new processor capabilities, and perhaps enhanced audio or gaming functions. If that’s true, we’d love to see it appear at the March event (although it may be more likely to show up in September ahead of the holidays).
A Leaner iMac
Here’s an interesting rumor: Apple may be planning the release of a new iMac with a very different focus. This may be a leaner iMac with an upgrade to Apple's own silicon chip and based on iPad Pro design elements. Think of it as more of a huge iPad Pro made to sit stationary on your desk, possibly even with long-awaited touchscreen features, or at least a lower price for those who can’t afford the other versions of iMacs. It may also compete more directly with the Microsoft Surface Studio. Whatever the end result, we hope it shows up in March.
Upgraded 14-inch MacBook Pro
Word has it that the 13-inch MacBook Pros are due to be replaced by 14-inch versions, which may have a new chassis or simply smaller bezels. This new MacBook also would give Apple the chance to include new M1X or M2 processors, which is no doubt a high priority for the company right now.
