Following a few teasers last week, Apple will be ringing in the New Year with a three-day “All Access Pass” to Apple TV+.

Hints of an Apple TV+ surprise first appeared last week when Apple began posting teasers on social media telling folks to “Stay tuned” and “Save the date.” The first of these was accompanied by a scene from Spirited, leading some to speculate that it might be related to the 2022 Apple Studios film that gave us a unique and whimsical take on Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, courtesy of Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds.

However, that notion was soon quashed by a second post featuring Gary Oldman from Slow Horses glaring at the camera. Unless Apple planned a crossover where Ryan Reynolds and the other Ghosts of Christmas arrive to redeem Jackson Lamb, it was safe to assume the company was up to something else.

The most common theory was that Apple was planning a first-ever free weekend to show off its original content on Apple TV+. It wasn’t clear what form that would take, but now Apple has announced the best-case scenario: a free pass where everything on Apple TV+ will be available for free viewing on any supported device, from an iPhone, Mac, or Vision Pro to anything with a modern web browser.

Apple TV+ is ringing in the New Year by offering an all-access pass to customers all around the world. Enjoy Apple TV+ for free the first weekend of 2025 (January 3 through January 5), Apple TV+ will be free on any device where Apple TV+ is available. All you need is an Apple ID to see what all the buzz is about.

It’s unclear when the virtual doors will open on the free service. All of Apple’s social media teasers and promotional trailers show January 4–5, including those posted today.

Meanwhile, Apple’s press release explicitly says, “Stream Apple TV+’s library of award-winning original series and films for free from January 3-5,” yet the video embedded in the release still says “Stream for Free January 4–5.” Apple may not open things up until later in the day on Friday, but it’s also hard to say how it will handle this across multiple time zones.

In promoting the free viewing event, Apple is highlighting many of its “acclaimed originals,” but it’s also fair to say that the timing is also ripe for drawing people in. Not only is the first weekend in January a time when a lot of folks are taking some downtime from a busy holiday season, but some of Apple’s bigger hits are in the middle of key cliffhanger moments that could encourage people to stay on board.

Kick off 2025 by streaming Apple’s acclaimed originals, including buzzy new seasons of “Silo,” “Shrinking” and “Bad Sisters,” the twisty, riveting “Presumed Innocent,” Golden Globe nominees “Slow Horses” and “Disclaimer,” and award-winning hits like “The Morning Show” and “Ted Lasso.” Plus, catch up on global phenomenon “Severance” before its second season debut; get your mind blown by celebrated sci-fi series like “Dark Matter,” “For All Mankind” and “Foundation”; discover movies for the whole family like “Fly Me to the Moon” and “The Family Plan”; and action-packed hit features like “Wolfs” and “The Instigators.”

For example, folks who want to try binge-watching Silo will be left hanging after episode 8 of season 2, since the last two episodes won’t be released until January 10 and January 17, respectively. The other show that’s generated a lot of buzz, Severance, is set to kick off its long-awaited second season on January 17, 2025.

The free weekend of Apple TV+ will be available everywhere that the service is available — in over 100 countries and regions and on Apple devices, smart TVs, game consoles, streaming boxes, and through tv.apple.com using virtually any web browser
