10 Celebrities Caught Using an iPhone to Sponsor the Competition

Celebrity tech endorsements can be a very effective marketing tool for advertisers. Landing a big name to market your phone or tablet often leads to big money. Apple doesn’t rely on star power to sell iPhones or iPads, but for other competing companies this is a very common practice. But a lot can go wrong when you leave these A-listers unsupervised.
There is nothing funnier than a celebrity getting caught promoting an Android device from their favorite Apple product, then realizing their gaffe when it’s too late. Unfortunately for them and their employers, this happens more often than they would care to admit. Don’t believe us? 10 Soccer Superstar David Beckham
Daily Mail / Splash News
English soccer star David Beckham is no stranger to the endorsement game, banking over $42 million from his endorsements with H&M, Adidas and Motorola. It was during the latter endorsement that Beckham committed the equivalent of an "own goal" in the advertising world. At the time, Beckham had signed a very lucrative deal with Motorola to promote their luxury phone series Aura. While out for dinner, the former Real Madrid star was caught red-handed using an iPhone. By the time he realized what he was doing and tried hiding his Apple device under the table, it was too late.
9 Wonder Woman Gal Gadot

Wonder Woman herself was not impervious to the good ol’ Twitter fail. Gal Gadot proclaimed her love for the Huawei Mate 10 Pro on Twitter, but did so from an iPhone. Though the tweet was later deleted and reposted, this time from an Android phone, the old Tweet will forever exist in the depths of the Twitterverse.
8 Tennis Star David Ferrer
Jaime Novoa
Spanish professional tennis player David Ferrer suffered the faith of many on this list. While promoting the Galaxy S4 for Samsung over Twitter, Mr. Ferrer did not realize that his tweet would inform everyone that he was very happy with his Galaxy S4, from his iPhone.
7 Comedian Ellen DeGeneres
Business Insider
While hosting the Academy Awards, Ellen DeGeneres committed slight treason against the award ceremony sponsors Samsung. During the many tweets posted during the event, DeGeneres was caught using an iPhone instead of the award ceremony sponsor. Though later that night she did eventually post a historic photo with an Android device, this was quite the oversight for the Oscars’ host.
6 Tennis Star Sania Mirza
Pankaj Ahuja
Indian professional tennis player’s attempt at promoting the One Plus 3T phone went horribly wrong when she sent her promotional tweet from an iPhone instead. While Mirza didn’t notice that she had used the wrong smartphone, the Twitterverse did, and like the good Samaritans that they are, they made sure Mirza was made aware of her mistake.
5 T-Mobile CEO John Legere
Apple Insider
Even large tech company big wigs like T-Mobile CEO John Legere have been guilty of using the wrong device. While tweeting how much he appreciated his Galaxy Note 3, Legere’s display of affection for his Samsung device was sent from an iPhone. Though he later realized his mistake and tried to cover it up by saying that he usually carries both devices. A credible excuse but it still makes for a very embarrassing moment.
4 Media Mogul Oprah Winfrey

Tech Crunch
Oprah can do no wrong and pretty much anything she touches turns to gold. Well, she was definitely not touching a Microsoft Surface when she tweeted her love for the touch screen personal computer. Instead, Oprah posted her tweet from an iPad and it didn’t take long for everyone to notice the mistake. In her defense though, at the time there was no Twitter App for Windows 8, so there’s that.
3 Renown Actress Jessica Alba
Financial Post
During the fall of 2013, Jessica Alba was busy promoting Microsoft’s Windows Phone but it seems like the star wasn’t interested in keeping up with the charade. Shortly after taking part of the Windows phone ad campaign, Alba was photographed in a New York Fashion Week event using her iPhone. Microsoft quickly tried to clean up this PR mess by claiming that she also uses a Microsoft device but pictures speak louder than words.
2 Supermodel Kate Upton

Edible Apple
During the launch of Galaxy Note 10.1 in NYC, Samsung enlisted the help of supermodel Kate Upton to help promote their event. During one of the many pictures taken of supermodel that night, an unfortunate photo surfaced of Upton with an iPhone by her side. It seems that some poor Samsung assistant was not doing their job that night.
1 U.S. President Donald Trump
Business Insider
The President of the United States once encouraged people to boycott Apple because they wouldn’t help the FBI break into a phone. In a bit of irony, Trump had to replace his Android device with an iPhone because of security concerns. All of this was discovered because of the President’s love for tweeting, as his posts revealed that they were being sent from an iPhone. At least this was done with National Security in mind.
