How to Turn off the 7 Most Annoying iOS 12 Features

Apple is constantly working to make iOS better and every generation of the mobile operating system typically introduces new features or changes that make our lives a bit easier. But that isn't always the case.
In every version of iOS, there's typically a few features that were poorly implemented or just inconvenient to most users and iOS 12 is no different. Continue reading to learn about the seven most annoying features in Apple's latest software update, iOS 12, and how to turn them off!
7 Disable Siri Suggestions
Siri is a lot smarter in iOS 12. But along with useful automation features, there’s also a new category of notifications called Siri suggestions you may have noticed. While they can be useful, they can also be a bit annoying.
If the Siri Suggestions on the Lock screen aren’t to your taste, you can disable them by going to:
- Settings
- Siri & Search
- Flip the toggle to disable suggestions on the Lock screen, Look Up, or in Search.
6 Get Rid of Accidental Apple Pay Prompts
Whether you use an iPhone with a Home button or an edge-to-edge device, you may find yourself inadvertently enabling Apple Pay more often than you like on the Home screen. Luckily, there’s a way around this annoyance. Just go to:
- Settings
- Wallet & Apple Pay
- Then, tap the toggle next to Double-Click Side Button or Double-Click Home Button.
Note: If you’re not an Apple Pay user, then there isn’t really a downside. If you do use Apple Pay, you’ll have to manually open the Wallet app to pay.
5 Disable USB Restricted Mode
USB Restricted mode is a win for cybersecurity, but it might just test your patience. Basically, it prevents any USB accessory from connecting to your iPhone if it hasn’t been unlocked in an hour, which can be inconvenient if you want to charge it or use CarPlay.
If you’re annoyed by USB Restricted Mode, or you just don’t see yourself getting your iPhone hacked, you can disable the feature by going to:
- Settings
- Face ID & Passcode
- Then tapping the toggle to Green next to USB Accessories.
4 Stop Butt-Dialing 911
On iPhones without a Home button, some users find that they keep accidentally calling 911 with the side button. If that sounds like you, there is a way to disable the quick-dial feature. Just go to:
- Settings
- Emergency SOS
- Disable Call with side button.
If you’d like to get rid of the blaring alarm “Auto Call” feature, you can get rid of that by tapping the toggle, too. Just note that you’ll have to dial 911 manually if you’re ever in an emergency situation.
3 Disable Screen Time Reports
Apple has implemented a digital health tool in the form of the Screen Time app — which tracks all the activity on your smartphone and sends you a weekly report on that data. But if you simply don’t care, or you’d rather not have Screen Time guilting you, you can disable the notifications.
- The next time you get a weekly Screen Time Report notification, swipe left on it.
- Tap on Manage.
- You can then select Deliver Quietly or Turn Off Notifications.
Screen Time will still track your screen time, but it won’t annoy you with notifications anymore.
2 Disable Strong Password Suggestions
Every time you sign up for a new account in iOS 12, the operating system will automatically create and suggest a strong password for you to use. It will then AutoFill password fields with it when you go to log in.
Of course, if you use strong passwords by memory or a third-party password manager, this can be a bit annoying. If you’d like to disable it, just go to:
- Settings
- Passwords & Accounts
- Then tap the toggle next to Autofill Passwords.
1 Share Photos Differently
In iOS 12, Apple subtly changed how photos are shared. If you send a photo or photos to an Apple user, it will be sent via the new Smart Photo Sharing feature, and sending photos via Messages can take a toll on your data. But there’s another way to send off pictures to your contacts: an iCloud link. This lets you send photos to anyone, iOS or Android, and it doesn’t take nearly as much data to send.
- Just launch Photos, tap the photo or photos you’d like to share, and tap Share.
- Then tap Copy iCloud Link and paste it where necessary.
