4 Ways Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 Will Beat iPhone 8

Press the Right Arrow to Begin. Samsung has officially graced us with the Galaxy Note 8 — its latest and greatest (hopefully non-explosive) phablet since the failed Note 7 went up in ashes a little over a year ago. Much like Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 flagship, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 packs a laundry list of drool-worthy features, specifications, and plenty of extras to keep its owners on their toes — and yet in many ways the Note 8 exceeds the iPhone 8. In all fairness, Apple is a company that's been shrouded in secrecy, and while there’s obviously not much more to know about the Galaxy Note 8 at this point, by utilizing what we do know about the iPhone 8, we can determine at least 4 key ways that Samsung will be giving Apple a run for its money this year.
4 Dual Optical Image Stabilization (OIS)
According to a recent assessment by CNET, the iPhone 7 Plus’ glorious dual-lens camera system has just been given a serious run for its money. Why is that? Well, not only is the Note 8 Samsung’s first device to feature a dual-lens camera system like the iPhone 7 Plus, but Samsung’s personal choice in hardware vendor (itself, naturally) has provided the Note 8 with some remarkably powerful camera optics.
The Galaxy Note 8 is the first smartphone from any manufacturer to feature two camera modules with optical image stabilization (OIS) capabilities on board, making the device a dream for capturing crisp, low-light photos with maximum exposure.
Likewise, Samsung has amped up the Galaxy Note’s camera software this year to reflect such image-snapping prowess; including new Dual Capture and Live Focus modes to help users make the most of OIS. So while we’ll just have to wait and see what Apple delivers for the iPhone 8's photography capabilities, Samsung has scored bragging rights (at least for the next few weeks.)
3 Display & Design
The iPhone 8 is expected to boast Apple’s first OLED display on a smartphone, which will reportedly clock in at a massive 5.8-inches and blanket nearly the entire front surface of the handset with a stunning 2800 x 1242 pixel resolution.
That’s impressive, to be sure, but Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 significantly ups the ante to an even more massive, 6.3-inch AMOLED ‘Infinity’ display, which literally curves around the outer edges of the device to create a seemingly 'endless', pixel packed panel at 2960 x 1440.
The physical design of the Note 8 is also sleek and appealing, and while the iPhone 8 is certainly a looker in its own capacity, there’s no denying that Samsung’s design team has a real winner on their hands with the Note 8. Sure, bigger is not always better, but the Note 8 provides a powerful, pocket-sized computing experience that the right users will definitely appreciate.
2 S-Pen
Of course, one of the most fundamental parts of the Galaxy Note experience is facilitated by the S-Pen. Whether it’s casual UI navigation, a spur-of-the-moment sketch, or even powerful multi-tasking between applications, Samsung’s S-Pen has for years provided loyal Galaxy Note owners with a truly unique and immersive tool to navigate their digital lives. And it’s certainly not going anywhere anytime soon, either!
1 Samsung DeX
While Apple has taken a strong stance on compartmentalizing its product portfolio so that no two items fill the same need, others, like Samsung, see a new technological possibility and run with it. And that’s exactly what the company has done with its latest DeX workstation for the Galaxy Note 8.
First introduced for the Galaxy S8 and S8+, DeX will allow Note 8 owners to simply plug their device into a DeX pod and instantly retrieve access to their data, apps, content, and contacts from an enlarged view — either on a computer or TV monitor or otherwise, creating a truly continuous, desktop-quality experience.
