A new survey shows that Apple users who are considering an upgrade to the iPhone 16 have concerns about several factors. Potential upgraders are concerned about the new iPhone lineup’s pricing, the size of the devices, how long it will take some Apple Intelligence features to be available, and more.

The iPhone 16 lineup is expected to debut in just a few weeks, and potential upgraders are mulling over several different factors when considering which iPhone model they will purchase.

SellCell surveyed 2,000 possible upgraders and the results of a survey indicate many participants will certainly be upgrading to the new models. Just under 62% of survey participants said they are planning on upgrading to a model in the iPhone 16 lineup.

When asked about which factors could encourage them to buy a new iPhone 16, 30.9% said the price of the iPhone 16 model they are considering is their top concern. 26.8% responded that thermal management was their top concern (good for second place), and 26.8% wanted to make sure that their new iPhones would run cool and unthrottled.

Apple Intelligence snagged third place, as 21.6% of consumers participating in the survey said they were excited about Apple Intelligence features. Faster A-series chips were the fourth-place concern (21.5% of respondents), while the fifth most important concern turned out to be larger screen sizes.

Finishing out of the top five concerns, but valid nonetheless, 19% of survey participants wanted to see the Action button available across all iPhone 16 models (Not just the Pro models), while 17.7% were interested in seeing the capabilities of the much-rumored Capture button.

Survey participants were also quizzed about their concerns related to the two flagship iPhone 16 models, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, both of which are expected to boast a taller and wider display. 54.9% of respondents said they wanted a bigger iPhone, although 33% of participants said that they thought iPhones were getting too big to handle.

More men are hoping to see a bigger iPhone than women are, with 62.1% of men hoping for a more massive iPhone, compared to 47.8% of women. While 41.5% of women surveyed said that iPhones are getting too large, only 24.4% of male respondents said iPhones need to slim down.

12.1% of survey participants are hoping the iPhone 16 lineup brings a smaller iPhone back into the mix, as they wanted to see the return of an iPhone mini model. Oddly enough, more men (13.5%) say they are going to wait for a smaller iPhone (perhaps the fourth-generation iPhone SE) than females (10.7%).

A large majority of survey participants said they’re okay waiting for all of the announced Apple Intelligence features to roll out in the period following the iPhone 16 lineup’s launch.

When asked if they were okay with many AI features only becoming available for the iPhone 16 a month after its launch, 82.1% agreed. A mere 17.9% of participants said that preferred to see the new AI features launched alongside the iPhone 16 in September.

As for the 38.1% of survey respondents who said they did not plan to upgrade to the iPhone 16, 34.2% said it was too expensive, while 34.1% said they preferred to keep their existing smartphone. 12.8% said they were still locked into a contract and couldn’t upgrade.

The survey data indicates that the iPhone 16 will be a success, as nearly 62% of current iPhone owners say they’ll upgrade in September. Those numbers are close to the 66% of people who were planning to upgrade to the iPhone 15 last year around this time.
