Apple on Monday updated its Apple Developer app for the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Vision Pro, and Mac as it prepares for its upcoming Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC24). The conference will kick off next Monday with a keynote event at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time (1:00 p.m. Eastern Time).
The updated Developer app will allow developers and other interested folks to view 2024 session videos, 1-on-1 labs with Apple engineers and designers, and more. Apple will stream the WWDC keynote event in the Apple Developer app, along with the Platforms State of the Union and other developer sessions during the several-days-long conference.
The revamped Developer app also adds related videos and an option to quickly view full-screen videos on the iPhone in landscape mode.
Per Apple’s release notes:
New in this release:
– Explore all WWDC24 has to offer, including video sessions, consultations, and more.
– When a video ends, you’ll see a related video to play next.
– When viewing a video in landscape orientation on iPhone, you can tap its thumbnail to present it full-screen.
– We’ve fixed bugs and added various other enhancements.
As is traditional for pre-WWDC updates of the app, Apple has added new stickers, bringing nine fresh sticker options for use in several other apps, including iMessage, FaceTime, and others. New stickers include animated emoji characters, an Apple logo, a Vision Pro, a non-animated dogcow, and an Apple Park logo.
Apple will unveil iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15 (insert name of California natural landmark here), tvOS 18, watchOS 11, visionOS 2.0, and more. However, in his Power On newsletter on Sunday, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said the Cupertino firm is not expected to unveil any new hardware at the event.
There’s no hardware slated to be announced at WWDC24 unless Apple unexpectedly previews a new device launching later (to be clear: I don’t expect that).Mark Gurman
Gurman also said a new Apple TV model “isn’t imminent.” The journalist had previously said that Apple was targeting a first-half 2024 release for a new Apple TV. The current Apple TV debuted in October 2022, which means the current set-top box is creeping up on being two years old.
Last week, Apple announced the full schedule for WWDC24.
The WWDC24 keynote address will kick off the conference on June 10 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time (1:00 p.m. Eastern Time, noon Central Time). Apple is expected to preview its upcoming new versions of its operating systems during the keynote address, as mentioned above.
Viewers can livestream the WWDC24 keynote event via YouTube, the Apple website, the Apple Developer App, and the Apple TV app. If you miss the live stream, you can view a playback of the stream on the Apple Developer app, website, and Apple’s YouTube channel.
Apple will hold the Platforms State of the Union, and the Apple Design Awards soon following the keynote address.
The Apple Developer app is free and is available on the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Vision Pro, and Mac in the App Store. [GET IT HERE]
