The Vision Pro may not be the most popular product Apple has ever made, but the company isn’t holding back when it comes to delivering immersive content for owners of the pricey headset to enjoy.

When the spatial computing headset debuted, it seemed that the focus would lean more heavily toward nature films, leading with titles like Encounter Dinosaurs out of the gate. This was followed by other immersive videos that let you explore the world, both ancient and modern, from the comfort of your couch — ideas that are definitely a good fit and show off what Apple’s headset is capable of. However, Apple didn’t stop there. It also embraced immersive videos in other popular categories like sports and music.

It’s in this last category where Apple has announced yet another new entry. This Friday, March 14, Apple is releasing Metallica, an immersive experience that will let fans virtually attend the band’s sold-out 2024 finale of their ongoing M72 World Tour held in Mexico City.

The video will feature full performances Whiplash, One, and Enter Sandman captured exclusively in Apple Immersive Video with an ultra-high-res 180-degree field of view and Spatial Audio that will put viewers in the middle of the action. That won’t just be in the nosebleed seats, either; Apple says that you’ll be able to get right up into the Snake Pit if you prefer an alternative to a full wide-angle view.

The best part is that you won’t need to shell out $3,500 for an Apple Vision Pro to experience this (although it’s probably still cheaper than M72 concert tickets in some venues). Apple is including it in the in-store demos it provides for the Vision Pro, so fans of the band can visit their local Apple Store to check it out.

Game changing is putting it lightly. Seeing our concert like that, along with the energy of the Mexico City fans — it’s very immersive, and it’s super fun. We’ve always been interested in pushing the boundaries, and Metallica on Apple Vision Pro is exactly that.

Apple and Metallica are also releasing a new EP, M72 World Tour: Mexico City, to provide a Spatial Audio listening experience for all Apple Music subscribers that can be enjoyed with any decent headphones or earbuds.

Metallica’s M72 World Tour ended its 2024 run in Mexico City in September, but many didn’t know that Apple was there to capture the band’s entire performance in preparation for this week’s release. It set up 14 Apple Immersive Video cameras in a custom stage layout that mixed stabilized, cable-suspended, and remote control dolly systems to capture the performance from multiple perspectives, along with “the energy of over 65,000 passionate Metallica fans.”

“I’ve been a music fan my whole life, and I’ve never experienced anything like this,” said Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “It’s not just the best seat in the house — it’s like you’re in the only seat on stage.” Lowe sat down with Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich at SXSW 2025 to discuss the Apple Immersive concert experience and “the band’s enduring commitment to their fans.” That interview will be available on the SXSW YouTube channel.

Metallica joins other Apple Immersive Video music experiences, including Alicia Keys: Rehearsal Room and The Weeknd: Open Hearts, plus the upcoming music documentary Bono: Stories of Surrender, scheduled to be released on May 30. Earlier this month, Apple also announced VIP: Yankee Stadium as part of its 2025 Friday Night Baseball lineup, providing viewers with an immersive all-access pass covering the matchup between the Yankees and their longtime rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, from early morning prep scenes to the tense nighttime finale, and everything in between.
