10 iPad Exclusive iOS 11 Features iPhone Doesn’t Have (Yet)

iOS 11 brings a lot of new features and improvements to the iPad to boost your productivity, allowing you to get things done more easily. From a redesigned App Switcher to an all-new drag and drop feature, iOS 11 introduces some exciting features that are available exclusively for iPad users. Some of these features have been present since iOS 10, but deserve to receive another mention. Press the right arrow to learn about 10 iPad features iPhone doesn't have (yet).

10 Revamped Dock

The dock is one of the best features of iOS. It allows you to quickly access your favorite apps from one place. In iOS 11, the dock looks a lot more like Mac and has received several enhancements.

Rather than being limited to 6 apps only, it can now hold anywhere from 11 to 15 apps. Additionally, the right side of the dock displays three recently used apps and suggested apps.

9 Drag and Drop

Drag and Drop functionality has finally come to the iPad and it's simply amazing. With just a tap and hold gesture, you can drag various items from one app to another or within the app itself.

To drag an item to a different app, tap and hold on it, then go to a different app and drop it there. You can use the dock or the Home button to switch to a different app and drop your items there. It even works when in Split View.

Items that support drag and drop functionality include text, photos, URLs, files, as well as apps.

8 View the Dock from Anywhere

Switching between your favorite apps is now much easier in iOS 11 since it allows you to view the dock from anywhere. You no longer have to go back to the Home screen just to open a different app or use the App Switcher to do it.

Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to bring up the dock, then tap on any of your favorite apps to open it. It's as simple as that.

7 Redesigned App Switcher

iOS 11 combines the App Switcher and Control Center into one unified view so that you can get the best of both worlds from a single place. It also displays the dock at the bottom of the screen.

There are a couple of ways to open the new App Switcher:

• Press the Home button twice.
• Perform a swipe up gesture on the screen using four fingers.
• Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to the middle of the screen.

6 Floating Slide Over

Two of the best multitasking features for iPad are Slide Over and Split View, which allow you to view multiple apps at once. In iOS 11, the Slide Over window appears as a floating view on the screen which can be placed on either the left or the right side of the screen.

How to View an App in Slide Over:

1. Open the first app which you'd like to use, then swipe up from the bottom of the screen to view the dock.
2. Tap and hold on an app icon, then drag and drop it on the left or the right side of the screen.
3. The app will be displayed in a floating Slide Over window. To move it, tap the handle at the top, then drag it to where you want. You can dock it on either the left or the right side of the screen.
4. To dismiss the app, tap and hold the handle at the top, then drag it off the screen from the right side. To view the Slide Over app again, just swipe in from the right edge of the screen and the app will re-appear.

5 Picture-in-Picture

Picture-in-Picture has been available to iPad users since iOS 9, but we're yet to see it on iPhone. When you're watching a video on your iPad, you can detach it into a separate floating window so that you can continue working on other tasks on your iPad and at the same time watch a video. You can move the floating window to any corner of the screen and pinch to enlarge or shrink its size.

4 Key Flicks on QuickType Keyboard

One of the interesting new features added to the stock keyboard in iOS 11 is Key Flicks. Normally, when you want to enter a special character (or numbers) on your iPad, you'd have to press the 123 key to switch the keyboard mode and view all the special characters, numbers, symbols and other extra keys.

Key Flicks in iOS 11 makes it much easier to enter all those extra characters on your iPad without having to switch the keyboard. Using it is pretty simple.

1. When you open the keyboard in iOS 11, you'll notice that all the keys are associated with grayed-out numbers and symbols above them.
2. To enter any one of them, simply swipe down on the corresponding key and the associated character will be entered. It's as simple as this.

This new feature is a big time-saver for those of us who type a lot on the iPad. It's also one of my personal favorite features of iOS 11 on iPad.

3 Instant Markup

One of the biggest advantages of owning an iPad Pro is that you can use Apple Pencil with it (which isn't supported by other iPads). In iOS 11, Apple has added new features to enhance the functionality of the Apple Pencil. One such feature is Instant Markup.

Although this feature was first believed to allow iPad users to markup anything on the screen, the reality is that it works with PDFs and screenshots only.

If you want to markup a screen, tap the share icon, then choose Markup as PDF.

2 Instant Notes

Creating new notes from the Lock screen is now much easier and faster in iOS 11, thanks to the Apple Pencil. Called Instant Notes, this feature allows you to use your Apple Pencil to quickly create new notes from the Lock Screen.

To do so, press the Home button to wake up your iPad, then tap the screen with your Apple Pencil.

Now you get access to all the tools of the Notes app without having to unlock your iPad.

1 Split Screen in Safari

Since iOS 9, Safari allows iPad users to open two tabs side by side. It is a great productivity booster when it comes to working with multiple web pages at once.

1. To enable Split View in Safari, tap and hold on a webpage tab.
2. Then drag it to the right edge of the screen where a black view appears to indicate that you can drop the tab there.
3. Now lift your finger to place the tab and view two web pages side by side.
