Bored With Your Apple Pencil? The ‘Apple Crayon Pro’ May Be For You

There’s no arguing that Apple makes some fantastic products and accessories. An iPad with an Apple Pencil Pro offers one of the best combos any digital artist could want. However, it’s also fair to say that Apple doesn’t have a lot of whimsy when it comes to industrial design.
To paraphrase the words of Henry Ford, Apple will sell an Apple Pencil painted in any color a customer wants — so long as it’s white. The same goes for many of the company’s other smaller accessories, from chargers and cables to the AirPods Pro.
Fortunately, Apple fans don’t have to be limited to basic white. If you find Apple’s stylus a little bland, you don’t have to settle for one that’s second-best. Colorware, a company with a long history of offering creative custom-painted Apple accessories, has just introduced a fun new assortment of “Apple Crayons.”
The company already released a limited-edition Apple Number 2 Pencil Pro last year, but its latest collection is even more whimsical. Dubbed the Apple Crayon Pro, it turns Apple’s stylus into an extended-length Crayola-style crayon. Although it avoids mentioning the name for trademark reasons, the resemblance to the classic crayons is readily apparent. There’s incredible attention to detail here, with “Crayon” in the spot where the traditional “Crayola” logo would be, and the classic Crayola swirled lines on each end.
The Crayon Pro is also available in seven colors: black, mint, pink, purple, red, white, and yellow, to suit anyone’s tastes. Sadly, none of these precisely match any of the iPads that support the Apple Pencil Pro, as only Apple’s entry-level iPad is available in more saturated hues. Colorware made a Number 2 version of the second-generation Apple Pencil, but it hasn’t tackled the Apple Pencil (USB-C).
The Apple Crayon Pro also doesn’t come cheap. This is an aftermarket modification, so Colorware has to buy the Apple Pencil Pro at the same $129 retail price the rest of us do, and then mark that price up for its efforts in customizing the stylus. That adds an $86 premium, bringing the price of an Apple Crayon Pro to $215.
While that may sound steep, Colorware has been doing this for a long time, and it’s got the process down to both a science and an art form. The multi-step coating process it uses for all its customized products is designed to last, and while the process voids Apple’s warranty, Colorware offers its own 12-month warranty on both the process and the underlying hardware
The Apple Crayon Pro is a fully functional Apple Pencil Pro, which means it will work with all of Apple’s iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad mini models released in 2024 and later. The company also offers a collection of other fun limited-edition customized Apple products, including retro AirPods, blended AirPods Max with matte earth tones, and a Mac mini retro that fans of classic Apple hardware will love. You can even get glossy AirTags that look like giant Smarties candy.
