Apple wants to encourage more folks to use its co-branded credit card this holiday season with a new promo that offers a nice boost to Daily Cash Back for those who are prepared to do some heavy holiday shopping.

Apple has offered some generous cash back promos in the past, including a holiday 6% cash back promo on Apple purchases with interested-free iPhone financing, a summer 4% cash back promo at select retailers, 5% cash back for travelling and dining, and an introductory 10% cash back on App Store purchases for new Apple Card holders. However, this one is unusual for not only having a maximum spending limit but also a minimum one.

While the 5% Daily Cash back applies to all retailers, not just Apple or the usual bunch that normally offer 3%, you’ll need to spend at least $15,000 on your Apple Card to qualify for the maximum rate.

Yup, you read that right, and that 5% cash back isn’t retroactive. That means that even once you hit that $15K mark, you’re only getting the 5% Daily Cash from purchases made over that number.

However, you’ll still get some bonus Daily Cash back rewards at lower spending levels as Apple has tiered this promo:

  • Get 3% Daily Cash back on spending between $5,000 and $9,999.
  • Get 4% Daily Cash back on spending between $10,000 and $14,999.
  • Get 5% Daily Cash Back on spending between $15,000 and $50,000.

Note that this isn’t bonus Daily Cash, which means that if you go out and buy a new base model Mac Pro at the Apple Store, you’ll still only get the same 3% Daily Cash back that you’d get normally. Ditto for other retailers that already offer 3%. For these, you’ll have to hit the $10K mark before you get any extra Daily Cash.

The good news is that while this is being billed as a holiday promo, kicking off on November 2, 2024, and running through the holiday season, it continues until April 30, 2025. That gives you plenty of time to hit those spending levels, but again, it’s important to remember that none of these tiers apply to previous spending, so you won’t get any additional bonuses by crossing the $10,000 mark unless you plan to keep spending above that.

The catch is that this is another one of Apple’s invite-only promos. Not all Apple Card users are automatically eligible. According to MacRumors, which first reported on the new promo, it’s “limited to select Apple Card users who receive a notification about it in the Wallet app.” However, if you’re invited, every card in your family will be included in the promo, so shared spending will count toward these totals.

It’s unclear who Apple is targeting for this promo, but it’s likely folks who aren’t using the Apple Card as much as the company would like. If you want to make sure you don’t miss it, be sure to check that notifications are enabled for your Wallet app by going into Settings > Notifications > Wallet and keep an eye on the Rewards & Offers section for your Apple Card, which can be found by tapping the three-dot menu when viewing the Apple Card in the Wallet app.
