Is This What the iPhone 7’s Wireless Headphones Will Look Like?

With Apple’s somewhat underwhelming “Let Us Loop You In” event over with, the internet has been focusing all of their efforts on Apple’s next iPhone. We have already seen several allegedly “leaked” cases and renders of the yet-unreleased device, and all of them seem to confirm the long-standing rumor that the iPhone 7 will forego the traditional headphone jack.
However, we haven’t seen any ideas as to how Apple will address the lack of headphone jack – will wireless earbuds be packaged in with the device? A new concept rendering from designer Miroslav Majdak believes so – his concept video that has been widely circulated on Twitter shows small, wireless bluetooth earbuds called “Airpods”.
Rumors of Apple ditching the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack date back to last September, when an Apple patent surfaced that displayed a 3.5mm headphone plug that had been essentially cut in half to allow for a slimmer phone design. In November, Japanese website Mac Otakara reported that Apple would look to eliminate the headphone jack entirely, opting for Bluetooth and/or Lightning-equipped headphones for the new device. This rumor was later re-iterated by several websites, including AppleInsider and the often reliable “serial tech leaker” Steve Hemmerstoffer.
Many of the leaked images that supposedly show the new device, renders of the new device, and/or cases for the new device have all eliminated the headphone jack, so it will certainly be surprising if the iPhone 7 is released with the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack and includes standard Apple earbuds.
A series of videos posted by ConceptsiPhone display some beautifully rendered iPhone 7 concepts designed by Miroslav Majdak. The renders show a beautiful new iPhone design with Force Touch volume and power buttons, dual microphones, and Touch ID sensor built into the display (which was rumored back in June of 2015). However, the aspect of the renders that caught the eyes of Twitter users around the world is the inclusions of the wireless earbuds, or Airpods as they are called in the design.
The Airpods, like the Apple Watch, use MagSafe charging technology, and offer up to 2 hours of battery life on a single charge on the included charging dock. They utilize Bluetooth 4.2 technology, and have touch sensors on the sides for gesture-based controls. The entire concept is very well done, and quite well thought out – enough so that many Twitter users believed the design to be officially endorsed by Apple. While not much is actually known about the iPhone 7 yet, many are expecting a September release. Rumor has it that the iPhone 7 will feature an upgraded processor and thinner design due to the lack of the headphone jack. There are also rumors detailing three iPhone 7 models – a 4.7 inch iPhone 7, and two designs of the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 – known as the iPhone 7 Plus and the iPhone 7 Pro, the latter of which will reportedly feature an upgraded dual-lens camera system.
