Apple’s new smartwatch is supposed to have a battery life that lasts a full day with one charge. However reports suggest that this goal may fall short of expectations. Apple initially planned for the watch to for between 2.5-5 hours based on active use. They also wanted to have a three day standby mode battery life, as well as a four day battery cycle in sleep mode. Unfortunately, the smartwatch may only last two to three days in either standby or low-power mode.

Battery life is very important to smartwatches since the owners expect the device to last throughout the day. Also, owners will want to the ability to have a full spectrum of apps and features without worrying about battery issues.  In the Fall, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that people would be charging the watch on a daily basis since they will be using the watch regularly. If these reports are accurate, they may not be horrible news for smartwatch users if they only plan on using the watch occasionally. The average person may only use the watch as a fitness tracker during a workout or only to check health stats.

Since Apple is a company known for perfecting their products, we can expect that the battery life is a genuine concern. Apple continues to test and gauge the watch’s performance about almost 3,000 units being tested under real-life conditions.
