Next Evolution in Blazing-Fast Bluetooth Connectivity Gearing Up to Be Unveiled Next Week

Perhaps the most fascinating, and, needless to say, exciting aspects about technology, is the fact that it’s constantly evolving all around us — always making our lives easier, more efficient, and helping us achieve goals we never thought possible.

Whether we’re talking about physical hardware — such as our smartphones, tablets, or personal computers, or even Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, there’s certainly no denying that these instruments have become an indispensable part of our lives in the 21st century.

Let’s consider Bluetooth, in particular, for just a moment, shall we? First developed back in 1994 by the wireless wizards at telecom giant Ericsson, Bluetooth — which is a wireless connectivity standard employed for transferring files and data wirelessly over short distances, has evolved, in and of itself, quite substantially since its debut nearly 22-years ago.

What launched as Bluetooth v1.0 and v1.0B back in 1994, has since evolved into such an integral technology — currently well into its 4th installment, v4.2, which was first released to the public back in December, 2014. Bluetooth 4.2 is capable of transferring everything from music, to files, and even connections between peripheral devices at blazingly fast speeds.

So, as you can see, even Bluetooth evolves — as it has quite substantially over the years. As a matter of fact, Bluetooth was recently reported to be gearing up for its next big evolution — Bluetooth v5.0.

According to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (the organization responsible for refining and releasing new Bluetooth standards,) engineers and specialists are currently hard at work on finalizing and working out the bits-and-pieces details pertaining to the new 5.0 standard — which, according to Bluetooth SIG Executive Director, Mark Powell, will bring a plethora of new advancements and features to the golden standard of wireless connectivity when it’s officially unveiled next week.

“Bluetooth 5.0 will provide significant new functionality for connectionless services like location-relevant information and navigation. By adding significantly more capacity to advertising transmissions, Bluetooth 5 will further propel the adoption and deployment of beacons and location-based services to users around the world,” according to Powell.

Bluetooth v5.0 will apparently bring with it a slew of new enhancements — even above and beyond the current v4.2, including upwards of double the range, and approximately 400% faster transfer speeds.

While many of the other, intricate details about the forthcoming technology remain still unknown, it won’t be long until we find out what Bluetooth v5.0 has in store for us. The new wireless standard is set to be unveiled at the Bluetooth SIG’s media event scheduled for next Thursday, June 16th, in London.
