Another year, another hot-off-the-press release of Apple’s desktop computing operating system — OS X. Back on September 30, 2015, we were graced with the vastly improved OS X version 10.11 — also known as ‘El Capitan.’ And so, sticking true to it’s annual refresh program, Apple is widely expected to take the wraps off its latest and greatest version of desktop computing goodness — OS X 10.12, with a sneak preview almost certainly to come at the company’s World-Wide Developer Conference this June.

And while we know very few details about what the next iteration of OS X will bring to the table, we do know of at least one major, sure-to-impress feature coming to the forthcoming installment — and that would be Siri, Apple’s iOS-based virtual voice assistant.

A screenshot of Siri’s supposed Waveform-style OS X dock icon, which you can see in the images below, was originally shared with MacRumors — which all but confirms that the Cupertino-company is, indeed, working to bring a desktop variant of Siri to OS X 10.12.

While the fully-fledged dock icon appears to depict a very similar Waveform-like illusion as that you’ll see on iOS devices when Siri is listening to and processing voice input, there also appears to be a simple, black and white boxed icon — that reads only “Siri” — which is located in the upper, right-hand corner of the OS X menu bar.

It also appears that, much like on iOS devices when the home button is pressed to activate Siri, clicking on either of the two desktop icons in OS X 10.12 will reveal a visually animated, waveform cue — indicating that Siri is listening for voice input.

While Siri for OS X is currently in the very preliminary stages of development, it’s not all that unreasonable to assume she will be able to do the same, or perhaps even more enhanced, actions as she can on iOS — such as, for instance, open apps, carry out web searches, send text messages, read emails, and much, much more.

Of course, seeing as how Siri for OS X is currently in the preliminary stages of development, it’s also very plausible that the waveform icon we’re seeing today could be updated between now and when Apple takes the wraps off OS X 10.12 at WWDC next month. However, in the end, the company will more than likely use a similar icon, or perhaps even a microphone icon, similar to that representing the Dictation feature currently employed in OS X 10.11.

Either way, though, it certainly won’t be long until we find out exactly what the inside scoop on OS X 10.12 really entails — as Apple’s WWDC 2016 is just around the corner! And, of course, we’ll keep you posted on all the details.
