With iPhone sales at a historic 13-year low — for the first fiscal Q1 of 2016, and expectations from both private investors and Wall Street conglomerates higher than ever before, it’s clear that Apple has got to step up its game with the iPhone 7.

And while we’ve feasted our eyes and kept our eyes low to the ground the past few months — ultimately discovering a slew of exciting, even mouth-watering, new rumors casually popping up out of the woodwork, there’s simply no other clear way to put this: if Apple wants to stay competitive, innovating at a faster rate than its rivals, then the company best be bringing a really, really sweet iPhone to the table this fall.

Well, fortunately (or perhaps coincidentally), less than a week after Apple’s bittersweet Q1 conference call, company CEO, Tim Cook, reportedly went on record during an exclusive interview with CNBC — indicating that, yes indeed, subsequent iterations of the iPhone will be “quite impressive.”

“We have great innovation in the pipeline, like new iPhones that will incentivize you and other people that have iPhones today to upgrade to new iPhones,” Cook said during the interview. We are going to give you things that you can’t live without, that you just don’t even know you need today…You will look back and wonder ‘how did I live without this?”

Well, that’s good to know, right? To be completely honest with you, it’s a bit difficult to discern exactly what kinds of features Cook might be alluding to from these brief and otherwise ambiguous statements.

However, we know this for certain: Apple’s next iPhone, according to most rumors, is already shaping up to be “quite impressive.” Impressive enough to woo Wall Street investors? Well, that much still remains to be seen, of course.

However, if most of the current rumors pan out to be accurate, then the next iPhone — and likely those to come in future years, as well — could quite possibly end up being Apple’s next big sensation all over again.

Also, let’s be honest here: Smartphones have become such an integral, influential piece of our lives. We use them so often, in fact, that there’s not many people inhabiting the world today who wouldn’t consider trading in their soul for one. Okay, okay.. Perhaps they wouldn’t go that far. But as a recent New York Daily News poll revealed, the majority of Americans would prefer their smartphone over sex. And that’s definitely saying something, right?

Here’s to hoping Apple makes well by its promises, and delivers us an extraordinary iPhone this year.

What do you think about Tim Cook’s comments? Is he purposefully being ambiguous in order to stir the pot even more, or is the future of the iPhone as we know it in jeopardy? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
