The MacBook Air, Apple’s ultra-portable and lightweight laptop, has become the best selling Macintosh computer in recent years. Last October, the MacBook Air 2015Â was announced, featuring upgraded processors, solid-state storage, and upgraded graphics performance. Although Apple’s recent focus has been on Apple Music, iOS 9, and the iPhone 6S, rumors surrounding the next iteration of the MacBook Air are beginning to circulate on the web.
Although details on the 2016 MacBook Air are still rather scarce, rumors of an enhanced display, new ports, and upgraded processor are beginning to surface. According to Motley Fool, the new MacBook Air will likely feature a Retina display with a resolution slightly greater than the current 1366×768-pixel and 1440×900 pixel displays on the current 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch MacBook Air models.
Several sources are speculating that the upcoming laptop will make use of the multi-purpose USB Type C port that was introduced in the MacBook this past March, perhaps adding two or more such ports to the design. Lastly, the MacBook Air will reportedly be powered by a new Intel Core M-Based Skylake processor, which is significantly more powerful and efficient than the dual-core Intel Core i5 that powers the current iterations of the MacBook Air.
The New MacBook Air May Borrow the MacBook’s Ultra-Slim Design and USB Type C Port
It’s likely that the 2016 MacBook Air will borrow influence from the most recent MacBook’s ultra-slim industrial design. According to MasterHerald, however, Apple may be looking to introduce another size to the MacBook Air lineup. While the lineup currently houses an 11.6-inch and a 13.3-inch model, a 15-inch variant may be added to the mix.
Details surrounding a release date for the new MacBook Air are scarce, as well. However, many sources around the web believe that Apple will make an announcement in October, as they did with the previous MacBook Air model. If previous release schedules hold true, future MacBook Air owners can expect the release in the spring of 2016.
